Burn Permits

Burning Permits will not be issued within Willmar City limits.
Residents are encouraged to use the local Brush Site which is located 3 miles west of Willmar.

The Kandiyohi County Landfill also accepts brush and leaves at no charge or for Burn Permits outside the Willmar City Limits, visit the Minnesota DNR Website.


Day Care Inspections

In accordance with Minnesota Statute 245A.151, a list of fire departments and cities that have been trained and are approved by the State Fire Marshal Division for the purpose of conducting day care/foster care inspections has been established.

All requests for fire inspections that are required by the Department of Human Services should be sent directly to the departments/cities on this list.

The Willmar Fire Chief/Fire Marshal conducts these inspections throughout the City of Willmar. Please contact the Willmar Fire Department, Kandiyohi County Family Services or the State Fire Marshal's website for more information.


Fire Alarm Permits

Per City Ordinance, permits are now required for monitored fire alarm systems.  

In summary, the Ordinance requires all monitored fire alarm/sprinkler systems to be registered for a $30 fee (renewable every 3 years).  In addition, any false alarms deemed to be “system malfunctions” will be charged a $500 fine payable to the City of Willmar. A Fire Alarm Permit is required to modify an existing fire alarm system or install a new fire alarm system. Please complete the form and return to City Offices.


Underground Tank Removals

Ordinance 815 of the City Code requires a written permit for the removal of any underground storage tanks and the Fire Marshal MUST be present while this is conducted.
