WILLMAR, MN, JUNE 28, 2024 – The City of Willmar along with the Downtown Willmar (DTW) board is proud to announce the implementation of sidewalk planters on Becker Avenue and Litchfield Avenue between 3rd and 6th Street Southwest. These planters are part of an initiative crafted to help envision opportunities for public investment in the Downtown.

The planters were made possible by the Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) grant through Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The planters, filled with a variety of plants and flowers, are not only visually appealing but also serve as a testament to the city’s commitment to investing downtown for the betterment of our residents, business owners, and all who visit the area.

“The Downtown Willmar Board worked hard on these planters to ensure they were placed, and they make a nice bold statement,” - Janet Onley, Downtown Willmar Board Vice President

“Integrating sidewalk planters is a transformative approach to urban design. These planters not only contribute to the appeal of our streets but also serve as a practical solution for sustainability and public well-being.” – Leslie Valiant, City Administrator
